NEWS
September 17, 2001
Alan is back in Los Angeles working on two record deals and a movie
deal. We don't know when he's coming back, possibly in early October,
but rest assured he will not return empty handed. And finally, by the
way, last June Alan won the ASCAP PLU$ award for the 6th year
running. This is the award given to a composer whose work is not generally
surveyed in the performing media (i.e. jukeboxes, etc.) Anyway, we wish
our boy well; more news will be forthcoming as we receive it.

The Alan Seidler Online handbook wishes to extend it's heartfelt felicitations
to our fearless leader, Alan Seidler, on the occasion of his birthday
this 4th day of December, 2001. On behalf of the entire staff and crew,
our clients, friends, subscribers, creditors and assigns, we wish Alan,
wherever he may be, the very best on this glorious day, a day which
was in no way overshadowed, diminished, pre-empted or by any measure
compromised by the celebration in Englewood, New Jersey of the 20th
birthday of Ms. Britney Spears two days prior. The

The Rolling Stone interview with Alan Seidler is now available. Writer
Augustin Sedgewick spent some time with Alan Seidler in New York City
and noted that his interview revealed ". . . a varied, incontestably
unique career but also much of the man himself, since Alan's art has
always been so true to his life, and since his life has always been
so true to his art." See the full text of the interview at
Interviews and Reviews.

Word has reached us from an informed source that Rolling Stone Magazine's
Augustin Sedgewick interviewed Alan for a total of six hours (!) during
late August and early September. Though there's no word yet on when
(or how much of) the interview will hit the stands, we hope to have
at least a portion of it up on the Interviews and Reviews page of this
site soon. Stay tuned for further developments.

Alan will be a guest at the annual conference of Chamber Music America
to be held in New York City in January 2002. At last Winter's conference,
Alan participated in a panel discussion on the subject Elitism in
Chamber Music: Fact or Fiction? Judging by the diversity of his
interests (to say nothing of his musical credits), we can firmly take
the position that our man is anything but an elitist! As the next conference
centers around the rebirth of improvisation as a living musical art,
we're certain that Alan, a lifelong improviser, will make a meaningful
contribution to the proceedings at hand.

Alan will be making a return trip to L.A. in late October-early November.
He has hinted that the trip is a mixture of business and pleasure, but
more than that we are not at liberty to say (or even know). During his
last trip to the City of Angels last Spring, Alan met and appeared with
legendary radio host Dr. Demento, one of his chief boosters back in
the Blue Goose era. He also tried (without success, sad to say) to organize
a nationally televised free concert in memory of his friend and onetime
patron, guitar wizard John Fahey, who died in February at age 61.

In June 2001, Alan was once again a recipient of the ASCAPPLU$ Award,
a cash grant given by ASCAP to recognize the achievements of its composer
members whose work rarely appears in the media ASCAP regularly surveys.
Alan has now received this award for the past five consecutive years.
