ALAN SEIDLER: DISCOGRAPHY

In many ways, the Handbook staff has found compiling a complete discography of all Alan’s commercial recordings almost as daunting a task as compiling his list of “Not-So-Serious Works,” because many of the record companies Alan recorded for, especially in the 1970s, have been absorbed and re-absorbed by larger entities or just plain gone out of business. In addition to the recordings listed here, during the late 1970s, Alan recorded between 40 and 50 unreleased tracks for Blue Goose Records, some solos, others accompanied by other Blue Goose artists coming through town, such as R. Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders, Gary Lawrence and His Sizzling Syncopaters and a host of guitarists who recorded on the Blue Goose label at one point or another. Though these were primarily pop and blues standards from the 1890s (“I Wonder Who’s Kissing Her Now”) to the early 1970s (“The Green, Green Grass of Home”) and Alan himself says many of the performances “were pretty shitty”, true Seidler buffs are interesting in our acquiring the original tapes and releasing whatever is of reasonably high quality on some sort of compilation, since Alan did lead vocals and piano on nearly all of them.
Also, in May 2005, Japan’s AIRAC Records announced that they had just issued a new (and unauthorized) “limited edition” of The Duke of Ook on CD, but Alan strongly suggests ignoring this product, which may be of questionable quality and seems to be available mostly by mail-order at a ridiculously high price ($29 plus shipping and handling), as his own production company, Furhoof Enterprises, intends to put out its own reissue on Hoove Ape Records in the very near future using the original master tapes, at roughly half the price, and with personally autographed messages from The Duke himself going to the first 1000 buyers. (PLEASE STAY TUNED FOR NEWS BULLETINS ON THIS SITE!) Anyway, here is Alan’s commercial discography, done to the best of our ability. The Handbook Staff wishes to acknowledge the assistance of Azatlan Records, Best Dressed Records, Patmore Lewis, Tim Rose, Robert Sher, and especially Stefan Wirz of Germany, whose tireless efforts to keep the Blue Goose legacy alive are without parallel.
